Class of 2016 Important Senior Information and Dates
Important Information for Seniors
Attend Senior Meeting with your parents Monday, October 12th orTuesday, October 13th at 5:00 PM and 6:00 P.M. (during Parent/TeacherConferences). Learn about College Applications, Scholarships and Financial Aid, andother post-high school options.
College Club meets every Tuesday after school from 2:00-3:00 PM in C113 (Media Center Computer Lab). Counselors will be available to help you complete college applications, register for the ACT, research scholarships and apply for them,write essays, or anything else you need to do to prepare for your plans after high school.
To attend a 4-year college or university, you should take the ACT. The DecemberACT Test is often the last test colleges use for scholarship consideration. The next test date is October 24th, 2015 (deadline September 18), then December 12th (deadline November 6th). You can either register online (www.actstudent.org) or pick up a registration packet in the Counseling Center. Fee waivers are available for students who qualify for the Free/Reduced Lunch Program.
To attend SCC, you can take the COMPASS test. The COMPASS test is given at NORTH STAR on: Friday, September 25th at 8:55 and Friday, November 13th at 8:55. Please come down to the Counseling Center and pick up a permission slip to register for the test. You may also register at SCC to take the COMPASS test.
Many colleges, universities and trade schools are coming to visit with students at LNS. To find out who’s coming each week, check in the Counseling Center and sign up. This is a great opportunity to make a “college visit” without leaving school----talk withcollege representatives, pick up information and applications.
Throughout the school year, visits will be scheduled to colleges and universities. Listen to announcements or check the counseling website for an opportunity to go on a free college visit.
Attend the Grand Island Area College Fair – Pinnacle Bank Expo Center Stolley Road-October 11th, 2015 from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M.
Lincoln Area College Fair at SCC-Lincoln on October 18th, 2015 from 1:00 – 3:30P.M.
Omaha College Fair- University of Nebraska at Omaha-October 25th, 2015 1:00-4:00pm.
APPLY EARLY- In most cases, you will need to provide a transcript for the school to which you are applying. Order your transcript through Jodi Vanek , our Registrar. She is in the Attendance Office. If you are under 18, you will need to have your parentssign an authorization for us to send your transcript. Ms. Vanek has those as well.
$$$$$$ Money for College. For grants and many other financial aid, parents complete FAFSA after January 1st. Go to lns.lps.org go to the Counseling page. From there, you can access a list of scholarships as well as links to other scholarship search providers.
